Do these models really have 1gb ram? I just want to be 100% sure before I buy one. I've heard cases of people getting a Turbo with 512mb ram instead. And what is reducing the price down from 249 automaticaly when it adds to the shopping cart?

Everywhere that i have read, has tegra 3 peaking at 1.4ghz. To only compare the price on 1 tablet and say its 40% cheaper meaningless. tegra 3 is in more than 1 tablet, i just so happens that the prime was the first and most expensive.

Not true. Archos peaks at 1.5Ghz when peak is required, Tegra3 peaks at 1.3Ghz when peak is required. The memory bandwidth is higher on Archos yet the Archos is 40% cheaper than the Tegra3 tablet such as the Transformer Prime.

Also a dual core omap 4 is very different from the quad core tegra 3, the omap 4 is limited to ddr 2 and pushed to the limit while tegra 3 uses ddr 2 and ddr 3, alot more efficient. The cpu speed is also almost even, the tegra 3 uses a 1.5 ghz single core to save power and turns it down to 1.4 ghz when it runs in quad mode compared to the dual core 1.5 ghz omap 4.

1.5 ghz is in turbo, usually stay at 1.2 ghz which is slower than 1.3. the memory bandwidth is higher yes, but the difference is negligible

1.5Ghz Cortex-A9 pf OMAP4460 is faster than 1.3Ghz Cortex-A9 of Tegra3, and OMAP4 memory bandwidth is faster than Tegra3.

Probably more powerful than a Tegra 2 but not a Tegra 3, not even in the same league.

I have an Archos 80 G9 and loved it. I write "loved" because I downloaded the ICS update and my wi-fi isn't working. It seems to work better for mobile programs than general web content, but it constantly disconnects and is very slow. Prior to that it was perfect for my needs. I really regret the update now. Any tips on what I can do to remedy the situation or on any upcoming updates? Thanks.

Let's hope we get at least Arnova soon, meanwhile I've picked up an Acer A100 for $250 and I'm lovin' it. It's got brilliant build quality and it's pretty snappy. Great value for that price. I think Acer and Asus are going to go on an all out price war this year with some pretty good tabs so it's gonna be good times for people looking for tabs on a budget.

I think Archos would love to be more present in India, the thing is Archos doesn't yet have enough cash to mass produce enough devices to satisfy worldwide demand, so they have to prioritize shipping for now in certain regions. The Indian market though for sure has to be very important for them. I think when Arnova G2 has perfect ICS firmware, perhaps next month, that should make some awesome products for India, for example the Arnova 7b G2 at $99, Arnova 8b G2 at $149, Arnova 10 G2 at $189, Arnova 9 G2 at $199, all running ICS smoothly, those can easily be super hits in India I think. I think Archos would love to upgrade all their old devices to ICS, the only thing is it's not a piece of cake and it's logic that Archos has to prioritize, upgrade the newest devices to ICS first and then hopefully it's not too difficult to port that work also back to all the previous devices, soon officially upgrade Gen8 and Gen7 with ICS, why not?

This is good news for Archos, and while they may have found a lot of new customers, they've also managed to alienate and drive away many of their old ones this year. And they still haven't come to India where the tab market grew 10 times in 2011, in spite of having promised to do so in September. They've in fact recognized that people have bought Archos/Arnova tabs from abroad and outsourced service and support to a local company. So let's hope 2012 brings some cheer to those who've lost faith in 2011.

I hope the touchscreen on the home phone version of Archos Home Connect is better than the touchscreen on their clock radio-- I've been working with the radio version since Saturday evening (when it showed up on my doorstep)-- it SUCKS-- even way worse than the Archos touchscreens of the past (and that's saying something). It requires you to literally pick the thing up, holding firmly in one hand, while "touching" (jabbing FIRMLY) with the finger from the other hand, akin to holding a ball of hard clay and punching a hole in it with your finger-- it requires THAT much pressure in order to get the screen on it to respond. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE-- and I suspect it's how Archos got away with marking it with such a low price (US $149)-- by using such sub-par digitizer/controller hardware. The visual quality of the screen is adequate, not outstanding, but hey, it's only a 3.5 inch screen-- it does the job for which it's intended there-- but the "human interface" design was completely botched-- and that includes installing their so-called "firmware update" that it detected upon my first boot-up-- I'm not confident any of their future updates will compensate for this glaring failure for such an otherwise potentially attractive insertion into the "tabletop clock radio" market.

It does not matter where the Archos is put together and what "made in" label has. Important is the open system, support, enthusiastic comunity of users and price. Not only students, but a lot of linux users like it, because it is open :-) MANY thanks to ALL developers and openminded people.
